VŠE students dominated the Euro Milano 2026 futsal tournament
The VŠE student futsal team achieved an extraordinary success at the prestigious international tournament Euro Milano 2026. Competing against eighteen university teams from across Europe, the VŠE students went through the entire tournament undefeated and, after a dramatic final, brought gold medals back home from Milan. Adam Šenkýř also left a remarkable mark on the tournament, as he was named the Most Valuable Player of the entire competition.
Day 1: A Dominant Group Stage Performance
VŠE showed great confidence throughout the group stage. They first defeated the home side Bocconi Milano 3–1, with goals scored by Urban, Pokorný, and Šenkýř. They then overcame France’s Da Vinci Paris 5–2 thanks to two goals from Šenkýř and additional strikes by Klíma, Kadla, and Pokorný. Finishing first in the group was a well-deserved reward for their dominant performances.
Day 2: Dominance and Tight Play-off Battles Ending in Gold
In the Round of 16, VŠE faced Da Vinci Paris once again. This time, however, they delivered an even more commanding display and cruised to a convincing 6–0 victory. Duch, Klíma, and Pokorný each scored twice.
The quarter-final against Croatian side Rijeka proved to be a much tighter contest, ultimately decided by a single goal from Šenkýř in a 1–0 win.
The semi-final featured a unique university derby between current VŠE students and VŠE alumni. After a 1–1 draw, the match went to penalties, where the students prevailed 3–2. Duch scored VŠE’s only goal in regular time, equalizing in the final minute of the game.
The gold-medal clash against Industriale Madrid brought yet another dramatic encounter. The match ended 1–1, forcing another penalty shootout to decide the winner. Once again, the VŠE students held their nerve, winning the shootout 1–0 and celebrating the overall tournament victory.
The team’s biggest star was Adam Šenkýř, who was deservedly named the MVP of the tournament.
Euro Milano 2026 confirmed the quality of the young VŠE team, which managed not only the sporting side of the competition but also the mentally demanding moments of the play-offs. Two victorious penalty shootouts further highlighted their determination and team spirit. “Thanks to them, the Czech Republic, Prague, and the Prague University of Economics and Business have achieved another valuable sporting success,” said the team’s coaching duo Jiří Kotáb and Petr Hochman.
