Top Young English Talents from Across the Czech Republic Gather at FIR VŠE

The Faculty of International Relations of the Prague University of Economics and Business hosted the national finals of the National English Olympiad. The most successful primary and secondary school students from all over the Czech Republic, who advanced through demanding school, district, and regional rounds, gathered in Prague. Besides the competition itself, a rich accompanying program and an opportunity to experience the academic environment awaited them.

Rigorous Testing Across Six Categories

The finals took place on May 4th and 5th, 2026 in six categories covering various age groups and levels of language proficiency—from younger primary school students to students in bilingual programs or schools with extended English instruction. During the demanding program, contestants demonstrated not only their language skills but also their ability to communicate, argue, and respond quickly in English.

Discovering University and Student Life

At the same time, the organizers sought to create an environment that would offer the finalists more than just the competition itself. After the competition segments concluded, participants had the opportunity to take part in a pub quiz prepared by students from FIR VŠE, or to join a guided tour of the VŠE campus, during which they were introduced to the university environment and student life at the Faculty of International Relations.

Awards for the Best and Individual Feedback

The awards ceremony took place with the participation of the Dean of FIR VŠE, Martina Jiránková, the competition’s academic supervisor Irena Hůlková, and representatives of the competition’s partners. All finalists took home commemorative items and gifts from VŠE and the competition’s partners, while the most successful contestants received a number of valuable prizes. These included, for example, vouchers for international language certificates from the British Council, specialized publications and textbooks, dictionaries, language courses, and access to educational apps.

Individual feedback was also a significant part of the competition. After the Olympiad concludes, finalists will receive detailed evaluation sheets that will help them better understand their strengths as well as areas where they can continue to improve.

Supporting Talent Thanks to Strong Partners

Special thanks go to all partners and supporters of the competition, especially the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, FIR VŠE, the British Council, the publishers Fraus-Klett and Oxford University Press, the English Me platform, Megabooks, Broňa Sobotka, and other partners who contributed to the success of the entire event.

The Faculty of International Relations VŠE deeply appreciates the opportunity to continuously support linguistically gifted pupils and students from all over the Czech Republic. We congratulate all finalists on their outstanding performances and wish the winners much continued success in their academic and professional paths.
