Opening of The Swedish Rescue exhibition already this Thursday, 24 September in the RB Atrium

We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition The Swedish Rescue, which will take place on Thursday, 24 September 2026 at 11:00 at the Atrium of Rajská budova VŠE.

The exhibition tells the stories of Czechoslovak citizens who found refuge in neutral Sweden during the Second World War. Sweden was an almost unreachable destination for those fleeing Nazism, yet it became an unexpected safe haven for thousands — social democrats, Jewish émigrés, forced labourers and deserters, and, in the final months of the war, survivors of the concentration camps. Ten panels present the historical context; another ten follow individual refugees and their descendants, who live today in the Czech Republic, Sweden and elsewhere. The portrait photographs are by Vojtěch Vlk.

The exhibition is held in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts, Charles University (Department of Scandinavian Studies), which created the project in 2025. The concept, texts and archival research are the work of Vendula Vlková Hingarová, who will attend the opening together with H.E. Håkan Jevrell, Ambassador of Sweden to the Czech Republic, and the Dean of FIR VŠE, Martina Jiránková.
