Competition for Doctoral Students «Ma thèse en 180 secondes»

The second year of the “My Doctoral Thesis in 180 Seconds” competition in Central Europe will take place in May 2020 in Krakow. The national finals in Czechia will take place in Prague on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. The winner will be able to participate in the regional finals in Krakow.

IFP begins to accept applications for the “My Doctoral Thesis in 180 Seconds” contest.

You can send your application until February 20, 2020.

The selection process will be as follows:

  • Send your application by 20. 2. 2020 through this link: here
  • Participation in the National competition in Prague will be on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
  • Winners are going to participate in the regional final from all five participating countries that will meet in Krakow, May 2020.
  • You have the opportunity to present your research project to the general public.

What is the “My Doctoral Thesis in 180 Seconds” contest (MT180)?

It is a competition that offers Ph.D. students the opportunity presents a simplified way the topic of their research in French to a wide and unprofessional audience.

Each candidate has exactly 3 minutes to present their topic in a clear, concise and convincing form. All in a single slide!

The competition is international and takes place in various French-speaking countries around the world. It takes place for the second time in Central Europe. It is organized by the French institutes of 5 states of the region.

The competition will take place in two stages: first the national round and then the final of Central Europe in Krakow.

The performance of the contestants will be evaluated by the jury and the audience will also comment.

  • The French Institute in Prague offers winners of Czechia finals reimbursement of travel expenses to the Central European finals and accommodation in Krakow during these finals.
  • Winning the first prize of the Central European finals will also participate in the international finals in Paris at the end of September 2020 and receive additional prizes and gifts.

What are the conditions for participation in the competition MT180?

  • To be enrolled for doctoral studies in a given University year, meaning 2019-2020 or obtain a Doctoral degree during the school year preceding the International Final, meaning 2018-2019;
  • Inform your supervisor about your participation in the competition;
  • Demonstrate sufficient progress of their dissertation;
  • Speak French fluently.
