Opening of the “Swedish Rescue” exhibition held at VŠE

On Thursday, 24 September 2026, the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Swedish Rescue” took place in the Atrium of the Rajská building at the Prague University of Economics and Business. The event was attended by the Swedish Ambassador to the Czech Republic, H.E. Håkan Jevrell, Ms. Marie Bendegard, the Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, doc. Ing. Martina Jiránková, Ph.D., and the exhibition’s author, PhDr. Vendula Vlková Hingarová, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Arts, Charles University.

Prepared in 2025 by the Department of Scandinavian Studies at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts, the exhibition tells the stories of Czechoslovak citizens who found refuge in neutral Sweden during the Second World War — Social Democrats, Jewish emigrants, forced labourers, deserters, and, toward the end of the war, concentration-camp survivors. Ten panels provide historical context, while another ten focus on individuals and their descendants now living in the Czech Republic, Sweden and elsewhere. The portrait photographs were taken by Vojtěch Vlk.

The exhibition can be viewed free of charge in the RB Atrium until 15 October 2026.
