Student Anna Korienieva represented FIR at Future Leaders Model United Nations in Istanbul
“I spent the Thursday evening of the first week in March on board of the plane. The destination? Istanbul. But I had a lot more serious plans than ordinary travels. I was invited as the Secretary-General and Chairwoman of the United Nations Committee for Human Rights at the conference Future Leaders Model United Nations 2022,” introduces her journey master´s degree student of International and diplomatic studies Bc. Anna Korienieva.
“Concerning my role of the Secretary-General, I my task was to supervise the highest academic standard of the conference which anticipates proper preparations and knowledge about how the similar conferences work together with international relations in general. As the Chairwoman of the Committee, I was leading the discussion, helped guests to orient themselves in the labyrinth of rules and procedures and directed them to the acceptance of the resolution. We have managed it at the last moment and after intense discussions. We were dealing with breaking the human rights in the Nagorno-Karabakh, how to prevent it and how to help the affected inhabitants” “It is worth to also mention the invited guests who spoke during the opening ceremony and were observing the ongoing conference. There was Mr. Mulie Tarekegn – the deputy of the leader of the diplomatic mission in Etiopia in Ankara and Mr. Jibreen al Bakri, the governor in Hebron, the city in the west coast of Jordan under the Palestinian administration. I have also met face to face with mr. Jibreen al Bakri who was a member of the revolution council in Fatah in the year 2009 and was imprisoned 17 times by Israel.” “Besides the formal part, MUN conferences are also enriched by additional events. FLUMUN was not an exception and organizers prepared for participants the Cultural evening where everyone could have performed the traditional dance or a song from their home country, the boat trip in Bosporus and a city tour. These events are ideal for networking and getting to know about new cultures.”

What is the UN model alias “MUN”?
MUN represents an academic simulation of institutions, committees, and agencies within the structure of the UN. The most frequently simulated ones are the Security Council, Economic and Social Council, World Health Organization, and the General Assembly. Each delegate is defending interests and values of assigned state during discussions about certain topics. These discussions follow the modified rules of procedure of the committee led by the Chairman.
“In Istanbul, there were more than 70 students from grammar schools and universities from all over the world. I had a chance to get to know some great and skilled people from Malaysia, Pakistan, Iraq, Nepal, Tajikistan, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda. There was also a large delegation from Ethiopia. This cultural variety is something what I appreciate the most during these types of events. It helps me to broaden my horizons and establish many interesting new contacts,” continues Anna.
“If you are interested in the Model United Nations and you want to try out the role of the diplomate, I suggest you to think about joining the student club MUN Prague operating at the Faculty of International Relations. I have also started my MUN journey there: It took me for instance to Cambridge, Manton, Munich and now to Istanbul.” concludes Anna.
