Postgraduate student Dominik Kohut was awarded the Prof. Michal Mejstřík´s prize
The first-year student of postgraduate study program at the Department of International Economic Relations Dominik Kohut placed 2nd in the competition for the prof. Michal Mejstřík´s price. The first year of the competition was organised in honour of this great Czech economist.
The ceremony took place on 18th November in the Municipal House in Prague. The price is awarded for the extraordinary diploma theses in the field of economy, and it was announced in the specialized public survey Mastercard – Bank of the Year; the Czech prestigious award of retail financial products with 20-years tradition.
Dominik Kohut gained the price thanks to his thesis on the topic “Value-added trade between China and USA” that was led by doc. Martina Jiránková, the head of the Department of International Economic Relations. Doc. Jiránková is focused primarily on the current issues of the world economy, which she also lectures at FMV (Czech version of the Faculty of International Relations). She also belongs to one of the best evaluated teachers of the faculty.
The main goal of the diploma thesis was the value-added trade between the USA and China, in which the issue of origins of the value-added in certain industries and the height of domestic value-added was stressed. One of the main discoveries is that the domestic value-added in the common trade in both countries is relatively high (almost 90 % in the US and more than 80 % in China). Moreover, the indicators show the stagnation trend in the United States and the rising trend in China.
For his discoveries, Dominik was also awarded ESOP price (Excellent Student Specialized Thesis) at FIR. The ESOP competition is announced annually by the deputy vice-chancellor for research and development at the Prague University of Economics and Business.
