How Do Foreign Students Live in the Czech Republic? Justine, an IB Student From the Philippines, Gave an Interview to the News

Hospodářské noviny, a daily newspaper based in Prague, had one of their editions devoted to foreign students living in the Czech Republic. They interviewed one of our students, Justine Lyris Bacay, who is in her last year of the Master’s degree in the English-taught International Business program.

Filipino at VŠE

A 26-year-old Filipino Justine Lyris Bacay studies a Master’s degree program at the University of Economics, Prague with a focus on International Business. She chose VŠE because she already completed an internship in a student NGO “AIESEC” in Czechia, she made friends and felt good in Prague and wanted to return to the Czech capital.

She truly appreciates Prague’s history and diversity of cultures. “I have professors and classmates from many countries. This is a wonderful opportunity that doesn’t just happen to all students. They can learn and get to know each other, ”says Bacay.

Moreover, she was pleasantly surprised that, as a student, she was entitled to significant discounts in museums, restaurants, and means of transport, so she could travel around Europe and get to know its history at a low cost. “Education here certainly goes far beyond the walls of Universities,” praises Bacay.

She graduated from a Filipino University in Quezon before she returned to Prague. “Both Universities are internationally oriented with great recognition in excellent research, but the structure of teaching is different. We worked in closed classes at VŠE and most of my courses were with the same classmates,“ says Bacay.  The University in the Philippines did the opposite. “We could choose from more courses and meet students from different programs,” Bacay adds. Bacay is returning to the Philippines when she graduates from VŠE.
