Dr. Trávníčková was invited to the international hearing of the EESC
Ing. JUDr. Zuzana Trávníčková, Ph.D. from the Department of International Studies and Diplomacy, participated last month in a prestigious event organized by the European Economic and Social Committee called Violation of sanctions/EU crimes.
The event was held to prepare a report on “Violation of sanctions/EU crimes”. It was a hybrid public hearing held on 25 November 2022 in Brussels, with the possibility to join online. The aim of the event was to gather input from policymakers, civil society organisations, academics, and social partners to inform the EESC opinion.
The Department and Dr. Trávníčková were invited to participate on the basis of previous publications under a GAČR grant project. More information on the outputs of the project can be found here.
In an online panel, she presented her views on the forthcoming Directive alongside other practitioners and the general public. She commented on her output by saying:
I supported the creation of the directive as a natural step in the development of European sanctioning practice, a step that seems to me to be both logical and necessary in view of the increase in the volume of restrictive measures in recent years. Restrictive measures have become an integral and everyday part of the European reality, and it is understandable that the European Commission is moving towards ensuring that the rules for punishing serious breaches of international sanctions are harmonised across Member States.
