Daniel Houska appointed a Member of the Platform on Sustainable Finance
The European Commission announced the newly appointed members of the new Platform on Sustainable Finance, tasked with (inter alia) developing and revising the EU Taxonomy for environmentally sustainable economic activities, evaluating the EU Sustainable Finance Framework and the transition to a sustainable economy in the EU.
The European Commission has selected 28 members and five observers from the private sector based on their expertise in the environment and sustainable finance. Vice-Dean Daniel Houska was appointed from the Czech Republic as the only representative.
Dean of the faculty Josef Taušer says: “The EU Sustainable Finance agenda represents a fundamental transformation of the entire financial sector since the introduction and tightening of supervisory stress tests for banks in response to the financial crisis. Our faculty reflects this recent development in our education, either in existing courses or by introducing new ones, and tries to prepare students as much as possible for the near future, taking into account sustainability issues and their impact on the business sector and the consequences on debt financing.”
Dialogue and close cooperation between a wide range of public and private stakeholders will be essential to achieve the objectives of the EU Taxonomy Regulation and, ultimately, the EU Green Deal and the EU’s climate targets for 2030 and 2050.
The Platform on Sustainable Finance plays a crucial role in facilitating such collaboration by bringing together leading sustainability experts from the corporate and public sectors, industry and academia, civil society and the financial industry.
