The department’s primary interest is commercial law in the Czech Republic, including company law, the law of partnership, the law of competition and intellectual property rights. The department’s research also concentrates on labour law and the right to social security. The accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union gave rise to the department’s need to pay attention to the problems of European commercial and economic law. The department cooperates with practice, particularly in the formulation of newly passed laws and in raising the qualifications of the employees of public institutions. The department’s publishing activities include textbooks and teaching materials; but of special significance are its commentaries on laws.
