How is a course graded?

The respective teacher decides on the classification of the study duties. No change can therefore be made without his/her written consent.

Detailed conditions for grading are given in the syllabuses of the courses in InSIS. These conditions are binding.

An excellent Grade Average pays off! It is worth watching your Grade Average from the beginning of your studies. In some Western countries, the Grade Average of a graduate is looked at throughout their professional life. At the University of Economics, attention to Grade Average is increasing.

Currently, the Grade Average at your bachelor’s and/or master’s study significantly influences:

• the possibility of obtaining a merit-based scholarship;
• the possibility of admission to a master’s degree programme without entrance examinations;
• the selection procedure for a semester abroad;
• the selection procedure for an internship.

You can find information about your Grade Average for each semester and for your entire studies in InSIS (“Student Portal” – “E-index”).

What should I do if my grade in InSIS was entered incorrectly?

You need to ask the Study Department to correct the wrong grade entry in InSIS. This can only be done via InSIS Contact Center: Request for correction of an inSIS record.

Use this application in case a grade for a semester already completed needs to be entered or corrected in InSIS. This may be the evaluation of students with Individual Study Plan who have the option to postpone exams until the next semester and provide the study department with the grade in this way, postponing exams for serious medical reasons, correcting a wrongly entered grade.

Which other study duties can be recognised at FIR?

Recognition of a State Exam from a Minor Specialisation

The state exam from a minor specialisation and all study duties leading thereto, providing all conditions mentioned above were fulfilled.

If this is the case, the student must have the same minor specialisation in the current study.

ATTENTION: Any other final state exam from bachelor’s and/or master’s studies cannot be recognised.

Recognition of master’s designated courses from a previous bachelor’s study

In the case of designated subjects for a master’s study, which the student completed during his previous bachelor’s study at VŠE ( cVOR group ), the study obligations are graded good (3) (see Article 12,paragraph 3 of the VŠE Study and Examination Regulations).

For recognition of the subjects from the cVOR group during the first semester of a master’s degree study, it is sufficient to submit an application via InSIS .

One-fifth of the credit value will be deducted for such a recognised subject. In the case of cVOR group course, courses graded good (3) can be recognised.

Recognition of subjects of a student with extra-student status (“mimořádné studium“)

In the case of recognition of a course from a study with extra-student status at FIR, which preceded a study with regular-student status due to lack of nostrification or the fulfillment of the conditions of the admission requirements, study obligations, even those graded good (3), are recognised.

Recognition of physical education

Recognition of physical education courses should be dealt directly with CTVS.

Recognition of study duties fulfilled at another university

Requirements for the recognition:

1. The study obligation was graded excellent (1), very good (2) or credited (“započteno”) or its equivalent, which is, in the case of ambiguities, evaluated by the Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs.
2. On the date of the application for recognition, no more than three calendar years have passed since completing a study obligation.

No study obligation is recognised from a study that resulted in exclusion from studies according to the Czech law.

The recognition of the study duties fulfilled at another university is done through a special form in InSIS Contact Center.

Use this application if you want to recognize a course studied outside VŠE (other universities, summer school, language certificate, etc.). Submit a separate application for each course. The application is dealt with by the Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs, who will seek the course guarantor’s statement.

Enclose Digitally signed transcript or certificate, and eventually syllabus, resp. link to the syllabus.

Insert files in a digitally signed version, or convert the paper version digitally signed using the CzechPoint services. The last option is to deliver the certified copies in the paper version to the study department, which will confirm their conformity with the files inserted in the application.

The application shall include a list of the courses for which recognition is applied and the group of courses to which the recognition is to be made.

Consult special situation with your study coordinator first.

One-fifth of the credit value will be deducted for such a recognised course.

Recognition of courses studied abroad

Recognition of courses studied during an exchange semester abroad is governed by a special scheme. Only the actual credit value is subtracted.

Most courses are recognised within the following groups of courses: hV , fVM  or fVB, and cVB .

Recognition is possible within a group of compulsory courses. In this case the course/minor specialization guarantor must assess the conformity of the syllabus of the studied courses with the accredited course at the University of Economics. The guarantor confirms, by his/her signature in the last column of the application for recognition of courses, the equivalency of the course. At the same time it is necessary to state the ID of the compulsory course for which it is to be recognised.

If the number of credits in any given group of courses is exceeded, or if the recognition is done within the cVM group, then the student’s extra credits are used for the recognition.

Grades are transferred according to the grading system of the Prague University of Economics and Business.

Recognition of summer school courses

Summer school courses’ recognition is similar to the recognition of courses studied outside the VŠE. The Transcript of Records is required.

The recognition of summer schools is done through a special form in InSIS Contact Center.

Use this application if you want to recognize a course studied outside VŠE (other universities, summer school, language certificate, etc.). Submit a separate application for each course. The application is dealt with by the Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs, who will seek the course guarantor’s statement.

Should the recognition of subjects from summer schools and similar education programmes be within a group of elective courses, assessment from the guarantor of a respective course is not required.

Can I have more than one course pardoned at once?

Courses have to be pardoned individually – study rules do not include the possibility of “pardoning the whole semester”. Should there be serious medical reasons, you need to follow the instructions for interruption your studies available at this website (Course of Studies section).

You must report your absence of more than 15 calendar days to the Study Department. This absence will then be registered in the study system so that individual teachers are aware of it and can assess an application for pardoning a course.

Can I have a State Exam pardoned?

Non-participation in the state examination or thesis defence due to illness must be reported in time to the secretary of the respective department which organised the State Exam’s term.
