For what reasons is it possible to interrupt studies?
On the student’s own request, he/she can interrupt the studies in particular:
- for health reasons
- due to a long-term stay abroad (not financed by VŠE)
- for personal reasons (financial situation, family situation)
- due to parenthood
When and for how long can I interrupt my studies?
The unit of interruption is one semester, i.e. the interruption always ends on the end of the semester. Interruption due to parenthood can be terminated earlier, i.e. before the semester ends.
For health reasons, the study can be interrupted at any time in the semester.
By own request, the study can be interrupted for a maximum period equal to the standard period of study, i.e. six semesters for bachelor studies and four semesters for master’s degree programmes.
You can interrupt for more semesters at a time.
Studying can be interrupted in the first semester of study.
How can I request for study interruption?
An interruption request is submitted electronically via InSIS. It is necessary to state the period for which you plan to interrupt.
It is possible to interrupt your studies without explaining your reasons before the beginning of a semester and until approximately the third week of a semester. Later, throughout a semester, it is possible only due to medical issues. Interruption requests are usually accepted no later than in the third week of a semester.
Medical reports are always required in original form.
After the approval of the electronic request by the Vice-Dean for Studies, the Study Department sends a decision by post. The Study Department submits the interrupted period into InSIS and extends the study completion deadline.
ATTENTION: During the interruption, the person is not a student.
Interruption of studies due to parenthood
For interruption of studies due to parenthood, it is necessary to document:
- a medical certificate of lasting pregnancy
- a child’s birth certificate
- proof of maternity/parental leave
Before a child is born, it is enough to submit a medical report proving pregnancy. Based on that, study can be interrupted for a maximum of one year. To extend this period, it is required to provide the child’s birth certificate and proof of the duration of parental leave. In case of any questions, please ask your Study Department.
Due to parenting, your studies can be interrupted until the third birthday of the child. Further interruption is only possible according to the common rules for interrupting studies.
