Generation Z and food waste: what did our research reveal? 🧐 A new study by the VŠE and Mendel University has surprising findings: 📌New research shows that Generation Z wastes more food than previous generations—an average of 43.4 grams per person per day 🥖🍎. 📌 Interestingly, those still living with their parents waste about half that amount! This three-year project, led by Mendel University and the University of Economics in Prague, is analysing food waste from college dorms 🏫 and anonymous diary surveys 📊. Single students living alone in dorms estimate their waste at 59g a day. Mostly it is fruits, vegetables and baked goods that end up in the trash. 📌 The results will help us understand how Gen Z’s habits change when they become independent. To tackle this issue, the "Don’t Be Trash" campaign is raising awareness with educational content and lectures . The findings will guide future strategies to reduce food waste and encourage more sustainable behavior.
