IBB student represented the country at the World Championship in 10 km swimming, finished thirteenth
FIR students are not only known for their academic achievements. Their ranks also include many talented sportsmen and women who represent the faculty and the whole country at sports championships in their respective disciplines. One of them is long-distance swimmer Martin Straka, a student of the English IBB program at the Faculty of International Relations at the Prague University of Economics and Business. He took home an incredible 13th place in the 10 km swimming race at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. He swam the 10 km course only two and a half minutes slower than the race winner, German representative Florian Wellbrock.
“The race was very well tactically managed by Martin. He can move very well in the pack. Unlike Ondra Zach, he also managed to accelerate the peloton in the middle of the race and stay in the first pack. The thirteenth place overall is a great achievement, and if he repeats it in February in Qatar, where he qualified today, we will see him next year in Paris under five rings.”
