Jakub Eberle, Ph.D., a member of the Department of International and Diplomatic Studies, has published the article in the prestigious Foreign Policy Magazine.
“Germany has often been criticised for its supposedly pacifist foreign policy, especially in connection with its relationship with Russia. This essay argues that this is a myth since post-WW2 Germany has always prepared for war. Berlin’s policies have not been shaped by pacifist principles, but rather by the liberal beliefs in the virtues of diplomacy, trade, and fiscal discipline.”

Jakub Eberle is an assistant professor at the Department of International and Diplomatic Studies. His professional interests include theories of international relations, Czech and German foreign policy, and Central European politics. He studied international relations at the University of Warwick (Ph.D.), University of St. Andrews (MLitt), and Charles University (Bc). He has lectured at the universities of Antwerp, Düsseldorf, Warwick, and Prague. Jakub is the author of two monographs on German foreign policy and several articles published in leading international journals, including International Political Sociology, Political Geography, Cooperation and Conflict, and the Journal of International Relations and Development. He holds an award for the best dissertation in international relations defended at the university in the Great Britain (2017). He is also a research director at the Institute of International Relations Prague.
