Jan Masaryk Centre for International Studies

Head of Department: doc. Ing. Štěpánka Zemanová, Ph.D. (stepanka.zemanova@vse.cz)

Secretariat: Karla Hůjová (karla.hujova@vse.cz)

The centre orients its research mainly towards the theory of international politics, the problems of world and European security and the cultural dimension of international relations. In practice, the department cooperates with the Institute of International Relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, e.g., it provides expert opinions, research reports, and it prepares professionals for the Prague Diplomatic Corps. The centre is a member of several international bodies, e.g., the Association of Schools of International Relations. It cooperates with members of a worldwide network of diplomatic academies, such as the Diplomatic Academies in Vienna and London. As a member of the network of ISAs (the International Studies Associations) the centre functions as a coordinating body for the Central and Eastern Europe – CEEISA (the Central and Eastern European Studies Association).   Of particular importance is the centre’s cooperation with the United Nations Information Centre in Prague (UNIC), and the Czech United Nations Association (UNA). The centre co-organizes seminars on current issues of the activities of UNIC, and it also organizes competitions for university undergraduates and secondary school students. The centre strengthens relationships with non-governmental organizations (the Jiří z Poděbrad Foundation for European Cooperation, Glopolis, etc.).
