Nikola Adamovská, Michaela Zemanová and Bilal Bahadir Karaca: The way out of a crisis? The role of cities in the process of Europeanisation: a case study of Thessaloniki city diplomacy

Nikola Adamovská, Michaela Zemanová and Bilal Bahadir Karaca: The way out of a crisis? The role of cities in the process of Europeanisation: a case study of Thessaloniki city diplomacy

The article is focused on the circumstances that push cities to undertake diplomatic action and the consequent implications for the Europeanization process of the region. The conclusions reveal that Thessaloniki city diplomacy leverages the Europeanization of the region and has the capacity to complement the Greek government’s foreign policy. The article also argues that the cross-border exposure of cities implies possibilities for further Europeanization of the region.

Jana Vlčková, Vojtěch Kadlec, Viktor Květoň, Jiří Blažek and Petr Horák : Contrasting patterns and dynamics of patent offshoring in European regions

The paper explains the association between research and development (R&D) offshoring and regional innovation performance. Drawing on selected literature from the intersection of economics, innovation studies, strategic management and economic geography, we explore how the rate of patent offshoring reflects regional performance as well as how an increased rate of offshoring affects regions.

Corporate sustainability performance has become a hot topic for all food supply chain actors. With this recent trend, we first elaborate on requirements that are to be expected from the envisaged ‘Taxonomy’ (a green classification system developed by the EU) – aspects showing that further strengthening and necessity of value sharing across the food supply chain would become inevitable.

Reconfiguring the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor: Geo-Economic Pipe Dreams Versus Geopolitical Realities

Reconfiguring the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor: Geo-Economic Pipe Dreams Versus Geopolitical Realities

There has been a great deal of speculation and prognostication about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The project’s name suggests it is intended to be an ‘economic corridor’ connecting Pakistan overland with China’s Xinjiang province. This book examines whether CPEC’s primary purpose is as an overland conduit for trade and economic cooperation between China and Pakistan. The key finding is that aims related to regional geopolitics and internal security have, in reality, a more significant impact. The book demonstrates that China’s goals in Pakistan are primarily geopolitical rather than geo-economic, since the notion of constructing an economic and transportation ‘corridor’ between Pakistan and China is logistically and economically problematic due to a range of foreseeable problems. Most importantly, border disputes with India and the containment of domestic separatism motivate are the driving forces for cooperation between the partners.
