vimun03In the days of 31. 7. - 4. 8. 2016, the ten-member delegation of students VSE participated in one of the most authentic simulation of the UN - Vienna International Model United Nations 2016 in Vienna. Each simulation has its own rules of negotiations and particularly VIMUN rules are very similar to the real ones. Moreover, this model United Nations was held on the premises of the international organization.

Student Models United Nations aim to closely simulate the real UN meetings and are often very fruitful extracurricular activity of FIR students. Over 150 students not only from Europe reached VIMUN this year and they represented assigned countries in six different UN bodies and international organizations.

This year's delegation of FIR was at VIMUN very successful. Matěj Procházka representing China in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which dealt with nuclear terrorism, won the Best Delegate vimun02Award. Other members of the delegation discussed at the Human Rights Council (HRC), the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

In addition to the meeting at the seat of United Nations, students had the opportunity to attend a reception at Vienna City Hall. A great contribution was also the visit of the Permanent Mission to the UN, OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna. Students were welcomed there by Minister Counsellor Jaroslav Štěpánek, who expounded the context of the emergence of multilateral diplomacy and its importance in today's globalized world during a seminar. Furthermore, he paid attention, among other things, to the topic of nuclear safety. The visit took the form of a seminar, which was similar to those organized by Junior Diplomat Initiative.

Would you like to participate the next time too?

Students, who would like to participate in Model UN and do not know where to start, can participate in events organized by student organizations MUN Prague or Junior Diplomat Initiative, whose members take part in these models regularly and will be happy to share their experiences. MUN Prague among other things, organizes a one-day MiniMUN simulation where participants can try out the model UN. More information about similar events can be found on the website or Facebook page of MUN Prague and website or Facebook page of JDI.
