FIR graduates head to the centre of multilateral trade negotiations (Jan Walter, MFA)

140127_SCP20_malaJan Walter holds a Master’s degree in International Politics and Diplomacy from Faculty of International Relations and a CEMS Master’s in International Management studied at University of Economics in Prague and at London School of Economics and Political Science. He gathered his first professional experience in consumer business project management in the Czech Republic and in the United Kingdom while still studying, and joined an NGO in the area of international relations, where he focused on education projects in the area of international relations. Jan broadened his network and skills by founding or joining university clubs (e.g. Debate Club).

On the eve of the Presidency of the Czech Republic to the Council of the EU, Jan contributed to the preparations and delivery of this project, namely in the team covering multilateral and common commercial policy. In 2010, Jan moved to Geneva, Switzerland, the seat of numerous international economic organizations (among others World Trade Organization, World Intellectual Property Organization, World Economic Forum), where he represents the Czech Republic as a diplomat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2014, Jan has taken up a role of a regional coordinator, in which he has a chair within a core negotiating group of seven regional coordinators and speaks on behalf of seventeen countries in total.

With the end of his contract at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in early 2015, Jan will seek further opportunities and challenges in the area of international economic relations.
