FIR alumni: Tomáš Novotný appointed as Deputy Minister at Ministry of Industry and Trade

Mr. JUDr. Ing. Tomáš Novotný, Ph.D., was appointed to the office of the Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic in the beginning of February 2014. He is responsible for the Section of EU Funds and the Section of International Competitiveness, Innovative Business and Investments.

Mr. Novotný graduated i.a. from the Faculty of International Relations at the University of Economics in Prague in 1993 (Major: International Politics and Diplomacy). Additionally, in 2007 he completed his doctoral studies at the FIR, majoring in European studies.

In the period of 1997-1998 he worked as a Secretary at the Organizational Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, in 1998-2000 he held an expert position at IPB, a.s. focusing on EU affairs. Afterwards, from 2000 to 2002 Mr. Novotný held positions of Deputy Director of the State Environmental Fund and Director of the implementation agency, followed by the positions of Deputy Minister of the Environment of the Czech Republic and Director of the Directorate of External Relationship at the same Ministry between 2002 and 2006. In 2006 - 2008 he worked as Director of the Directorate of EU Funds and Deputy Director General at Technoexport, a.s. From 2009 he was the Director of the Regional Operational Programme for Central Bohemia.
